Urban Beehives And Bee Keeping

Bees have had a tough time of late.  You’ve probably read as much in the news, where colony collapse is getting more common.

It’s a troubling trend because bees are a critical part of the food system due to their pollination.  The cause is yet to be determined but many researchers are suspecting that chemicals are playing a role in the decline.

While the debate continues as to the cause, you have to hand it to proactive people who, in their own way, are trying to curb the losses.

One of those folks is New Zealand native Rowan Dunford, who developed a product to bring beekeeping to urban environments.

The Urban Beehive is designed to be easy to set up and manage, making the whole idea of bee keeping a bit less intimidating for city folk.  It’s currently in testing and we hope to see it available on the market soon.  In the meantime we hope you’ll consider bee keeping, not only as a great hobby, but a protective one as well.
