Solar Panels And Pergolas
Adding a pergola over a deck or backyard area is a terrific idea in most cases. These attractive structures provide an increased visual appeal to any area, and when combined with some kind of shading, a pergola can offer up a comfortable place to relax in the backyard.
We’ve seen the use of canvas sun shades, various vine type plants and other things along with the structure of the pergola. They all go well together and are quite functional.
But we’ve never seen anything quite as eco-friendly and productive as the use of solar panels, mounted on top of a pergola.
Solar panels and systems are currently not as inexpensive as many folks would like them to be, but over time they can pay for themselves with cost savings on energy costs. In some instances they might even eventually turn a profit as a home owner may generate more power than they use and in that case, the utility company may buy back some of the surplus.
Sometimes the biggest question is where to put the panels for the best coverage and use. Some can be mounted on posts in the backyard, or on a rooftop of a garage or home. Or, sometimes, on the top of a pergola. It’s a great idea for the right home.
