Are LadyBugs Good For Your Backyard?
Ladybugs are, for the most part, cool little insects. And yes, they are good for your garden and your backyard.
Compared to other bugs, these are actually good guys to have around. They help to control unwanted pests like aphids, mites, leaf hoppers and other insects.
Growing up we remember seeing Ladybugs a lot and by that we mean the American variety. This species is usually a brighter red color compared to the now more common Asian Lady Beetle which has an orange color. In truth, there are quite a few species of lady bugs around, but the American species have been in decline for some time now. Research is now ongoing as to what’s really happening to them and you can get more information from the Lost Ladybug Project website.
If you’re interested in attracting more Ladybugs to your backyard you can build a simple feeder for them.
The feeder is simple and easy to put together. All you need is some bamboo, some twine, and some raisins.
Hang this feeder around your garden area and see what you attract! Detailed directions for the feeder can be found here.
