The Concrete Pumpkin Planter

This has to be one of the coolest things we’ve seen this fall.  If you’ve had some kids around the house for a few years  you no doubt have done a bit of trick-or-treating.   And if you’re a cool parent and all, you don’t send your kids out there with a paper bag!

No, you send them out with a cool looking plastic jack-o-lantern pail.  But these will do more than just hold some candy.

You can actually make an awesome looking concrete planter out of them too!

For this project you will need:
One bag of concrete mix or your favorite concrete/hypertufa recipe

Two plastic pumpkin pails

A tub to mix the concrete

Something to mix with (hands or a hand hoe)

Cooking spray

An inner mold—a couple of tall cups or similar will work

Something to create a drainage hole, like a couple of squares (about one inch) of Styrofoam that was cut from a big piece. It has to be tall enough for the inner mold to sit on.

A mask and a pair of gloves
